DSLR camera is one of the best Professional cameras today. CANON 5d is one of the best camera till today. All these mirror less cameras came before DSLR and went away. But practically the DSLR camera is best. Mirror less camera is best for new photographers who just entered photography and they need to hold lightest camera to take pics of birds or mountains.

Upgraded from Canon 6D Mark II but worth a purchase. Truly awesome. Must go for it. Even the budding professionals can use it with ease.

I’ve read most major reviews of this camera and I know a lot about this camera in general. I’m aiming to buy this maybe later on, as of now, money problem. What you can expect:- A fantastic all rounder photo/video camera with a killer autofocus setup.

    Merits:-
    1. 45 Megapixel full frame sensor gives quite good quality, with lots of room for cropping/re-framing.
    2. Video recording is 8K60 in RAW format, and other lossy formats available in lower res too. 8K is 4 times more detail than 4K, which is 33 megapixels in each video frame, such sharpness. For this it uses entire sensor width. 60fps is as high as high quality video goes, beyond that its for slow motion use case.
    3. 1080p240 ensures good slow motion video. This is commonly available in flagship phones for few years now, but on a huge sensor, it will give a big dynamic range and quality.
    4. Autofocus system is off the charts, its so good! You can autofocus while shooting, you can teach the camera’s AI an object (like basketball etc) or person to focus on, or you can enable eye autofocus, which focuses where your eyes are targetting (in the viewfinder) using its eye tracking system. This is epic. Huge number of autofocus pixels ensure you focus sharp and quick.
    5. Pre-click shooting available if its kept on.
    6. Both mechanical and electronic shutter available. Electronic shutter has practically unlimited life.
    7. Full size HDMi output, 4 channel Mic input, Bluetooth, wifi, all good connectivity options available.
    8. High frame rate display.
    9. Canon Log2 and Log3 video available for immense video-workflow potential. Usually reserved for top line cinema cameras.

    Demerits:-
    1. Some older Canon & other brand batteries might fit the camera, but will have some features disabled. I think its artifical disabling, because it disables 24fps video record, but 30 works ok. Although Canon says this is due to new battery being high output.
    2. Firmware issues in some countries. Software updates might be needed later on. Don’t know about India.
    3. Battery life is so so. Buy multiple batteries, but original Canon batteries are very expensive for now.
    4. Heating issues might happen in 8K/4K video recording, there’s a cooling accessory but its insanely expensive anyhow and disturbs the (already not so) shape of the camera.
    5. Lens compatibility is less but adators do help, but again, using an old lens with an adaptor might give slower autofocus than what this camera is capable of.

In conclusion, this camera is a revolution, gathering more attention than the more expensive R1 too. Just buy it if you’re a professional and get a lot of high quality video+photo work, including short films/ movies shooting, sports & sudden photography work.
For photograhy alone & night photography, its good enough but there are better choices in lesser money, like R6 Mark II or R7.

Great product. Perfect choice that match my expectations. Wanted to go for R5M2, but thought to spent the difference for gears, compromising some small issues like overheating, continuous video-shooting and dedicated video button etc.., those could be managed by me sensibly. I’m using this entirely for cinematography purpose. Amazing performance on most cases. 120FPS on 4k gives me the stunning slow motion clips at unimagined sharpness. 8k lets me to trim the unwanted areas of a frame to full-quality 4k.
30 minutes restriction doesn’t matter for me as a continuous shooting lasts for less than one or two minutes in most cinematic works. But I don’t think it’s an apt choice for wedding coverage, as it can affect the continuous 4k filming and because of the bigger footprint. (I suggest to go for Sony 7m3 at one-third cost of this)
