Dorin Siddharth –
This product is from Eveready and Jeevan Sathi is one of the trusted brands in India since its inception. Earlier these torches would come with incandescent bulbs and was a must to have household item all across India . Over the years the incandescent bulb has been replaced by Led which has provided much power and intensity to the produced beam. Now here arises a very pertinent question of the need and utility of such an item when we have a thousand choices of owning a rechargeable torchlight. The beauty of this torch is its non rechargeable property. Now, when we have electricity all around us , it’s better to own a rechargeable torch and recharge it according to our need. It saves money in the process for not having to buy 4 D cells. But the magic lies when we do not have an access to electricity . Then this metal torch is ready to perform, you just need to replace the batteries once they die out. I can’t say perfectly how long do these four cells last. I can put it approximately around 10 hours with a completely new set of simple Eveready heavy duty batteries. I’ve been using this torch for more than a year and with normal Eveready batteries, each battery costs ₹20/-. The colour of the beam is not perfectly milk white but yellowish white. I can’t even say how long does the beam can reach actually because I haven’t been able to test its range in either complete or partial darkness. I’ve been using it in city and the range is comfortably above 500metres. And that’s a good range I must admit. The metal built is very handy and one would love to carry it in hand. It’s a long torch. For people residing in places or have to use a flashlight under a circumstance where there is no electricity for charging this is the best choice by far amongst all Indian torches. The metal body ensures long life . I still remember having seen those large headed Eveready Jeevan Sathi torches in my childhood days in our houses and their intensity was around one fifth of these present day Led versions.
The improvement which I feel could be done in this torchlight is to increase the whiteness of the light. The claimed 220 lumen is more than adequate for our normal household work.
It seems to be very useful while walking in the darkness , either in the villages or in a farm house to check intruders.
Even carrying it during your evening walk is like having a companion.
I would suggest readers to go for it without any doubt, because such a flashlight is very essential and may prove handy during circumstances like power failure for a long duration, natural calamity, trekking or camping , keeping inside your car etc. Always ensure that the batteries do not leak, to get this done either keep your batteries separately or check them regularly.
After going through this , many of you might be wondering why I’ve not given it a 5 star. This is due to the overpricing, though I don’t regret much since I wanted to own this torch for a long while and this product doesn’t seem to be available in the market anymore.
Anyway, it has been really pleasing using this wonderful India made product.
Thank you Eveready and Amazon.
